Pirin is a mountain in South-West Bulgaria. Named after the ancient Slav god of thunder and storms Perun, Pirin is one of the highest and most beautiful mountains in Bulgaria. Although relatively small in total area Pirin is unique in many ways. Its steep slopes rise its marble - literally marble - peaks up to nearly 3 000 m making it one of the highest mountains on the Balkans.
